Re: More on Lionel HO

There is very little "S" gauge available at the local shows I attend too. I have a few Gilbert American Flyer pieces, and would like to upgrade some of the rolling stock that are parts of factory sets. It seems when I do find the cars, they are damaged.

Re: Seen in Print

I am not so certain that the media is to blame for the explosion in the use of acronyms. I think texting and all the texting related applications like Twitter have a lot to do with it.

Re: live auctions

Bottom line is don't bid more then your willing to pay. And remember to include the auction's buyer's fees and shipping. The last on-line/live auction in which I participated was only about an hour from home, so I went and picked up the merchandise in person. Too bad I only won one item. Winning a ...

Re: Seen in Print

Aren't you concerned about all the saturated fat(s) and cholesterol in all that fattening fried food? In my mind, that's some scary stuff. Am I alone in that viewpoint ? I very rarely eat anything fried, and feel much healthier for it. Try it! Nothing from Burger King or Wendy's. Breakfast oatmeal ...

Re: Never question a Drunk!

True. They also like to hire contractors to reduce employee headcount and costs way more. In my former field, which was IT, contractors cost way more than state employees, even when benefits were included. The contractors didn't take home more, the businesses that supplied them pocketed a whole lot...

Hondo: Some of the articles you linked are about private pension funds. Some of the articles are about New York City pension funds. New York State government is separate from NYC government, as are their pension funds. Some local governments do use the NYS level pension. The NY Post opinion piece st...

I cannot comment on other states, New York has one of the healthiest pension funds in the country. The...

Golf isn't a part of my life. I know a lot of other people who don't golf either. Here is one of many web pages defining the expression: "below par":

Re: NATO

I am not saying that humans are not having some impact on climate change. I just don't believe that burning fossil fuels are the only contributing factor. What about all the volcanoes and the fires that are burning thousands of acres. They know that there are volcanoes under the Antarctic that are ...

Re: But, does it pay the rent

Sharing housing is what my son used to do since it was the only viable option in the DC area if you're making under $100k. Sharing housing was standard operating procedure for college folks when I went to school. In my experience, you found people you wanted to live with, and then found an apartmen...

Below is a link to Wikipedia piece on Hyphenated Americans. Started out as a epithet. I don't see anything on when it became popular for use for a cultural identity. My guess is the 1960's.

Re: But, does it pay the rent
