Re: Makes you wonder...

Lionel's early SD locomotives were simply their GP shells put onto a 6 wheel chassis. Likely different trucks mounted to the original, or more likely the SD shell mounted on a GP frame.

Re: New

"Always go by the picture in the detailed description" I don't see enough pictures to go by or a detailed description for the seller to "not be responsible".... As for the shipping price, that's about what I paid to ship my Lionel scale N&W J class (about 20 pounds altogethe...

Re: 2019 Redford Theatre Christmas Layout

Thank you Jake. The lights under the table covering always impress me. This year is no exception. I was particularly intrigued wtih the flashing blue lights representing harbor waves this year. Very inventive. The theater is impressive also. The grand style (Japanese motif in this case) is a thing ...

Re: 2019 Redford Theatre Christmas Layout

Lots of variety. Very nice. I am also impressed with the speed that you run the trains. Many train layouts if this type have trains running, IMHO, too fast to see very well. On the other hand, I have seen some rather nice layouts with impressive trains that being run at scale speeds. The general pu...

Thanks Jim. Things are definitely happening in the Motor City, more so in some areas than others, but progress.

2019 Redford Theatre Christmas Layout

I neglected to share my updates about the 2019 version of my Redford Theatre Christmas layout here. If you don't remember, each year for the past nine years, I've constructed an O gauge train and Christmas Village display in the orchestra pit at the historic Redford Theatre in Detroit, MI. It's a 19...

No problem, they're a good company to have available.

You may want to check again, it was recently announced that they were bought by an employee and will be resuming operations soon (if they haven't already).

Re: May 10, 2019 - May 10, 1869 = 150 years

I'm not sure it was my greatest financial decision, but I have the full set Lionel is advertising on their site on order with both the brass Jupiter and 119 locomotives plus the sleeping cars as well as the two passenger two packs for each locomotive on order through Charles Ro. I work on 19th centu...

Re: May 10, 2019 - May 10, 1869 = 150 years

I suspect that person(s) that wrote and did not proof the copy for the ad/web announcements have some spraining to do. The York light, diesel sound sets with chuffing. The York tender light isn't a typo. In addition to the two famous "golden spike" locomotives, they're doing models of the...

Re: The "Moron" boxcar.

The trucks on those cars are garbage See if you can find some of the Weaver die cast trucks Please elaborate. Also, do they have postwar style wheels? And where was the tooling for the entire car made? Some of the stuff Lionel claims is U.S. made, comes from tooling made in China. That stuff is NOT...

1897 Baldwin 4-4-0 Detroit & Lima Northern #7 received its first load of coal and water for the 2019 season yesterday. It had a successful test firing today and will likely be out soon for some running tests in the next week or to prior to the opening of Greenfield Village on April 13th for the ...

Re: Weekend Photos - 3/1/19

So the whistles are appropriate for the locos. Yes they are both correct as the recorded sounds are a Hancock 3 chime whistle, which is what the N&W J classes used. As whistle's aged and wore in however, two of the same type easily could have sounded different depending on how old they were. Th...

Re: Weekend Photos - 3/1/19

Roger I'm not sure if it's just the videos or they are actually different. I do know mine is the 606 and Jake's is the 611. Whether Lionel actually did different whistles for these is doubtful but you never know. I hope to have mine stretch its legs on a floor layout this weekend. and I'll try to s...

One of the best upgrades I ever did to my J as well. The upgrade boards make them operate nearly like a Legacy engine.
