I received a text-message on my cellphone , today, from the nearby CVS , which is where we have had our prescriptions filled for years. They invited me to go there immediately to get a flu shot. Should I ?

Thanks! But. My only hesitation is that last year, when I had one, all was well. However, a few years previous, I had been avoiding getting a flu shot because a couple years before that, when I did get shots, it seemed I got real sick with the flu afterwards, each time.

Every year we have this same debate. You cannot get the flu from the flu shot.

If you got sick, it was either something else or a variant of the flu that the vaccine was not active against. Some years the vaccine is more effective against all of that seasons' variations and some years, it's less so. It's not perfect and something beats nothing.

Might want to remember that if/when there's a vaccine for covid.........that might need yearly or more frequent boosters, etc.

Agreed! But yesterday, while at the "Market Basket" grocery store, a gentleman I would estimate was 50-ish, stepped back at the head of an aisle to let me pass ahead of him. The market is in a very gentile neighborhood, Franklin Lakes, and courteous behavior is 100% de rigueur; however, since I wasn't rushing around ( never do, anymore) , I interpreted his gesture as linked to my white hair and "apparent" age range , though I was standing-up straight , as I always have. I stepped back for him and gestured for him to go on ahead, which he did . Nice . Sort of .

I rarely accept such gestures, thinking them and telling them I'm in no hurry, etc. They always ask if I need help to take the groceries to the car. When I can't lift the bags into the car from the cart, I probably won't be going to the grocery store either.

Central Bucks school district will move to in person learning. Oct. first they will allow students back in school the amount of days your child attends is based on what option you picked in July. Your child nay attends could be 2,3 or 5. Your child will sit in class while their teacher conducts a virtual class.

Ps they have hired a classroom assistant. Assistants will be paid $175. A day.

Two way video feed and remote microphone? The teacher can see/monitor the class and answer questions? I assume the aid is in the classroom with the kids.

This technology has been used for years in grad school night classes where they couldn't find a space big enough to hold the entire group. My wife remembers this happening when she was working towards her MBA. There was an amusing side effect. Remote site had two big screen TV's and it was on the university cable system. On nights with NBA games the remote group would tune one TV to the game and mute the sound while the other was tuned to the lecturer.

This was being done in a fashion in the 70's at the big universities when there were classes numbering in several hundreds - simply no single room large enough - 2-way video and microphones.

This is how kids are learning now. They sit at their kitchen table with a laptop and watch a lecture. Starting in October then can go to school and watch a lecture. Why can't the teacher stand in front of the class and teach? If the room is safe enough for a teacher's aide and students. Then it's safe enough for a teacher.
