Northern weather
Re: Northern weather
We had -17 here at 7:00 AM yesterday morning. Started warming a little overnight and the snow started this morning. We've got another 4 inches and it's still snowin'. Only 11 degrees here most of the day.

Ours is supposed to gradually turn to rain with sleet and freezing rain in between. Tomorrow morning could be "interesting". May go lug some extra wood into the garage before it gets dark given possible power loss and all.

Re: Northern weather
About 5-6 inches on the ground here in north-central Maryland, 22 degrees and climbing at 1710 hours.

The dogs are not impressed:

Still snowing pretty good...like Rufus said, it's aupposed to turn to sleet/freezing rain at some point overnight.
Hopefully this is ol' man winter's last gasp...

Re: Northern weather
So, today, here in NJ, more snow has fallen since noon , continues as I type this, with sleet-rain-snow-somethingorother is expected tonight into Sunday. Then, 44 temp. Where is all the potential meltwater going to go, even for us up here on the hills above the river? I am concerned about the basement and its train-layout and models stored underneath it.
The cold air was such a shock when I went out early yesterday mornng it made me cough, which was a new experience for me. Apparently, Betty Davis was right, "Old age is not for sissies."

If the terrain about your house is contoured to drain and direct water away from the foundation, you should be ok.
But the best laid plans of mice.....

Re: Northern weather
About eight inches of snow with a crust of ice on top this morning...side streets are glazed. Temps are forecast to hit the mid-40's this afternoon, then refreeze tonight and cold the rest of the week. We'll be looking at this stuff for awhile.
The wife taught a class at the local hysterical society yesterday morning...left her car on the lot and walked home afterwards (just four or five blocks). Went down this morning, dug it out and brought it home before they towed it.

Re: Northern weather
Well, they plowed my neighborhood last night apparently in between the snow and rain........and now we have a good 1/2" of ice over the entire road surface since all the rain froze right on that nicely plowed surface.
I tried to walk down to the corner to see how the next road might be, but it was so difficult that to turned back. Daughter walked to work cross-country at 6:30 am.
Had they waited to plow until this morning or even just a few hours later - would have been no problems at all....

"...hysterical society..." ? Did you intend to type that? If so, may I ask, what does that mean?
Re: Northern weather
Murph,
You were an English teacher and never heard of an "hysterical novel"?

Historical novel, yes, hysterical, nope.
Re: Northern weather
Man you guys get all the luck this year as well as the last couple the snow here in Nebraska has been skirting , failing to develop, or just plain missing Omaha. We broke even so far on snow removal this year like the last 3 but sure would like to make some cash. If we got all your snow I would be physically dead but flush with cash. ENVIOUS OF YOUR LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

You never checked what some of the girls were reading?
Stuff often based on historical events but with a love interest of various sorts.

Re: Northern weather
Sorry, an irreverent dig at our local Historical Society of Carroll County. They're not a bad lot, better than most. My wife teaches a class for 5-7 year-olds on rural life in the mid-to-late 1800's. Coincidentally, this month's topic was the coming of the railroad.
