I did notice and you're on a strong neutral point posting today and I'll follow your lead. I only beefed up my statement with "far right zealots", because it's been pounded in my head by the media (Pavlog dog syndrome), that good is left wing liberal and anything bad is far right conservative. drool, drool, droll.

Maybe we should do away with statues altogether as memorials outside cemeteries and museums? Graven images. Bad. Focus on the present and future and stop yearning for the unreachable past, with all its complexities? Rename all streets and cities for composers, poets and rock stars. Baseball players who hit over .250 or won at least 50% of the games pitched? Or perhaps MTH employees?

Maybe, the USA could take all the offending statues and plaques and corral them into one huge compound, entitle it "Our Past Mistakes" and have it as a tourist attraction, good as a teaching-aid for parents and teachers trying to explain all of it to the young-ins ?

P.S. I wonder if the statue of C. Columbus is next, and if (likely) so, will its traffic-circle be renamed, too?

United States of America has to be changed also.

America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian explorer Second voyage" (1499–1500)they headed north for the Spanish colony at Hispaniola to resupply and repair their ships before heading home. After Hispaniola they made a brief slave raid in the Bahamas, capturing 232 natives and then returned to Spain.

Amerigo Vespucci is just as bad as Columbus.

You just can't change everything. If I remember my world history, virtually every major country in the world participated in imperialism up until the early to mid 20th century. Not saying it was right, but like everything for many thousands of years, people behaved like they should for their time. IT WAS A DIFFERENT WORLD THEN AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE HISTORY BY REMOVING REMINDERS, TEARING IT DOWN, PRANCING AROUND LIKE IDIOTS, ETC. You just have to accept it happened and not do it again.
