The Tempest, performed in Ann Arbor as part of the Royal Shakespeare festival. The setting had been changed to Arctic in 1930's. Inuit mythology with Ariel as a Lurch like character (no Tinkerbell feathers) and Caliban is a walrus like creature. Sir Patrick Stewart was Prospero. His delivery of the final line was so stunning it was literally jaw dropping. When the audience snapped out of it he got a multi minute standing ovation.

I also enjoyed the original Sleuth (before the movie came out), gypsy with Patti Lupine, and Noises Off with Peter Gallagher.

Evita! with Patti Lupone in the lead of the original presentation. 1979. Wonderful. Something of a cultural, iconic phenomenon, local to NYC theatrical life and lore.

I was there, sitting 7th row, Orchestra section, the night she stopped the show by stopping in mid-monologue to scold a member of the audience for their misconduct. An amazing moment. More interesting than the show itself and the show was wonderful.

Cats. exciting and vibrant. Touching and poignant. And fun. At one point in the production, some of the "cats" actually came up into the balcony and prowled around, addressing some remarks and sounds from there.
