The Battle For Seattle

This is almost as good as a Hollywood movie.

Seattle police chief: 'Leaving the precinct was not my decision'
https://www.foxnews.com/us/seattle-poli ... g-precinct

After days of protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody, Seattle police boarded up and left the East Precinct building Monday night – and then a crowd of protesters set up barricades in the surrounding area, declaring it an “autonomous” and “cop-free zone.”

Images of the barricades show hand-written messages including “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” and “You are now leaving the USA.”

“You fought for days to protect it,” Best continued in her remarks. “I asked you to stand on that line, day in and day out – to be pelted with projectiles, to be screamed at, threatened and in some cases hurt.”

Protesters allegedly also threw glass bottles, rocks and “explosives” at police there on Saturday. Police said they used blast balls and pepper spray to try and break up the crowds. The city also made the decision to ban its police force from using tear gas to quell the unrest.

Do you remember a few years back this movement they called "OCCUPY WALL STREET"

Do you remember what they accomplished after the party was over. I don't. What they are doing in Seattle reminds me of Occupy Wall Street. The mayor and city council are all admitted liberal socialist. What's the problem ???

Seattle Protestors Are Occupying 6 City Blocks as an ‘Autonomous Zone.’
https://news.yahoo.com/seattle-protesto ... 51395.html

“It’s not a rave. It’s not a festival,” Diakite said of the so-called Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ). “It’s decent, honest, hardworking people that don’t want people getting hurt by the people that are supposed to be protecting them. The whole thing is hopeful and scary.”

Now the BEST part

Over the past few days, hundreds have flocked to the CHAZ to protest, create art, make music, and socialize. Protesters have collectively mapped out places for communal spots and services, like garbage sorting and aid and food stations. Tuesday night there was a showing of 13th, the Ava Duvorney’s documentary on the racial inequalities in America’s prison system.

“This is no simple request to end police brutality,” it stated. “We demand that the city council and the mayor, whoever that may be, implement these policy changes for the cultural and historic advancement of the city of Seattle, and to ease the struggles of its people.”

Among other things, the list demanded “100%” abolition of the Seattle Police Department, rent control, a 911 system specifically for mental health emergencies and free college for Washington state residents.

This is just my opinion....
Please let them take the whole city. Let’s use this as experiment to see if a self policing system works. :)

a 911 system specifically for mental health emergencies

That should be a very busy line, because I think they're all F'ing crazy. It won't take long before the criminal or some bad element steps in and creates havoc. Are we going back to the wild west days?   :D

And here I thought it was Congress that were providing inmates (and/or future inmates) running the asylum.

Doesn't have to be one or the other at fault. You are correct - it's a matter of "we" (The People.) Plenty of blame to go around. Many voices are complicit in the failures.

But there are good folks, too, who have helped establish, grow, and continue to succeed, with this marvelous country, in the long run especially. IMHO

Is Seattle out of rubber bullets and tear gas?

Or just gonads?

The mayor banned the use of tear gas and rubber bullets. So they are down to their gonads and the mayor neutered them.

Before you jump on Expedia to book a trip with the family to the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, now known, by the way, as "CHAZ," the country's Tourism and Economic Development Department is calling it that.

You should know that there are no beaches in CHAZ. This is a tiny nation. It's smaller than Liechtenstein.

The entire country extends only six city blocks. It was built on land that was formerly owned in part by the Seattle Police Department. But the founders of CHAZ wanted that land. So, they planted a flag and they stole it, just like the Conquistadors.

The first thing they did after they declared nationhood and this was a bit of a surprise given that these modern Conquistadors claim to be progressive ideologues.

But the first thing they did was establish rigid national borders. They built a wall around the place just like Donald Trump once said he would do.

Their wall is made from wooden barricades. A sign at the entrance to the country warns, "You are now leaving the USA."

And then there are armed border guards, not technically ICE agents but close enough -- who question everyone seeking entry.

Countries have borders and the founders of CHAZ understood that. They don't want the place flooded with illegals, and by illegals, we mean the citizens of Seattle.

It's an ironic moment . When seekers of utopia realize it requires rules. Dystopia is soon to follow.

Socialist Seattle City Council Member Proposes Leaving ‘Autonomous Zone’ Permanently in ‘Community Control’
https://news.yahoo.com/socialist-seattl ... 16827.html

A socialist Seattle city council member will introduce a bill to keep a downtown area seized by protesters in “community control.”

Kshama Sawant, of the Socialist Alternative party, announced that her office was currently working on legislation to protect the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, or CHAZ. Protesters claimed control over a six-block area in Seattle’s third police precinct, after officers were ordered to abandon the precinct building.

“Our movement needs to urgently ensure East Precinct is not handed back to police, but is turned over permanently into community control,” Sawant continued. “My office is bringing legislation to convert East Precinct into a community center for restorative justice.”
