I have found that people who have to knock other peoples model work seldom have anything they have built themselves to show and talk about. The CLW H-10 that you have completed is as good as this model can get. For those who do not like Kadee trip pins SNIP EM OFF! The new Kadees without the visible spring are quite nice.

I know how that goes Joe. However I got such nice feedback from most who responded that I'll call it a success overall. I remember early on how I got myself tangle up in getting the valve gear right, and how you helped me with your experience in such matters. Got me off to a great start indeed.

I really don't give a RRA what you use. But if you want to get the feel of the prototype, something better on the nose that will couple with your KD's, even if you just unscrew the KD and screw a prototypical coupler on FOR PHOTOS you will be miles ahead.

For decades I threatened folks I'd get a picture of a "prototypical" KD by finding a front coil spring out of a 1956 Cadillac, painting it gold, grabbing a handful of coathangers, proceeding to a car on a siding, and wiring it up to the side...just for the photo.

If what you personally want is an exquisite model with a "coupler" on the nose there was never a prototype for, hey, it's your trains, do what you want to do.

Usually reluctant to enter these pissing contests. But.
Close-up photos are quite useful for evaluating how well a model has been done and Roberts are superb.
This is not intended to be a mantel masterpiece, but a working loco on Robert's railroad. So, ignore the KD coupler if your aesthetic impulses are offended. And, of course, all those KD's on rolling stock. or, go full Proto-48.

Nobody has criticized the model. All this is is a lively discussion about Kadees. How harmless is that? The model itself and the scenery are as good as they get.

Hi, I thought the discussion was all good including the input about the couplers. Snipping off the hose from the coupler is easy. If that is what it was narrowed down to I'd be pleased as punch. If the fight had been about moving the running boards or something difficult it could have been disheartening. I don't think there is any question in anyone's response that Robert has done a great job.

I'm okay with divergent opinions regarding my choice of couplers. They are easily changed if I felt like doing so. But alas they remain firmly intact and somewhat beautiful in all their questionable glory. Maybe, but this is what we do. We start threads with locomotive or car photos, then watch as navel-gazing threads take off. Locomotive photo threads die rapidly unless there is some minute detail to glom onto.
