I don't think being concerned for your children or grandchildren will draw any fire. I'm very concerned for my grandkids and I could care less if others don't agree. In fact, I'll go a step further.........if you're not concerned you're and idiot.

Really getting off topic but still germane to generational changes. I agree with Rufus. Life is what you make it. So much of it is beyond our control. Really like Bob T’s metaphor about the last train West.

My life mirrors Bob T’s somewhat.

Navy paid for graduate school which incurred a military obligation. Never fired a weapon but did see death in aviation mishaps. Went through flight training but on the T-34c, whereas Bob probably trained on the T-34b. The T-34b is manly aircraft, radial engine and carburated, but I digress.

Prior to that I went in state to college and had a job to minimize debt. Could have gone to more prestigious colleges but felt the bargain was not worth it. I have had some terrible jobs which compelled me to be financially conservative. However, unlike some on this thread I am in my late 50s, less of a dinosaur.

I have taught on the undergrad, grad and post grad level most of my career but the post grad teaching was voluntary and without pay. I think educational debt is a travesty. Although I have seen some post grads come through with $300k of debt and admit to using their educational loan to buy a Tesla and/or extravagant vacations. What the hell! Maybe living beyond your means has just become part of our culture.

Unfortunately the National, state and county debt is largely beyond our control. However, the impact on current and future generations, I feel, will be severe. I am delaying my own retirement by a year out of concern of having enough funds. Just got to keep things in perspective and make the best of the situation. Hell at least it’s not 1930s depression.

Yeah, I can go off the rails and voice my opinion stronger than I should, but it's a sore subject for me. Back to model railroading.
