Vintage kit tank car builds

I will say that Lobaugh had a really first rate line of tank cars. I have a few to post. Here's another Shell three-dome:

Hand-painted too. It makes it more interesting. I wonder who did this one?

Another 10,000 gal Lobaugh tank. Walthers decals - I think the real Mobilgas cars were silver/black outline like this. Color is a bit off.

I note the pretty much original Lobaugh tank went for around $27. Even with $20 shipping, not a bad deal.

I also note a challenger boiler, a set of frames with mis-matched drivers, and some gearboxes went for $300. I am truly impressed!

I miss Dave's eBay reports.

I was watching both, I let the challenger stuff go, couldn't see how much more it would cost to find or make the remaining bits... I do still have a loose tender floating around though looking for a loco lol.

Bump. I have lately been into the prewar Lobaugh tanks. I have very few of them, but just traded an 8000 gal prewar kit for a 10000 gal Mobilgas tank missing a few easily fabricated parts. Looking at trying the 1939 scarlet paint found inside the tank.. Hope it is lacquer, since that is easily softened after partial drying.

And then I will have nine Mobilgas! I is nutz.

Sorry, yes, I did get it. It is a little cruddy and I almost did some damage trying to start the cleaning process. Note it also has the funky Auel trucks with the lifting journal box lids. Also showing a couple of other recent Lobaugh cars I picked up, the UP box and the 50 foot PFE reefer. This is an early one before the brass built up frame but has the built up sill detail as shown in the 1938 catalog. Think I also have a later one of this same PFE reefer with the built up brass frame that we all know and love.








And the little Icken 0-8-0 that recently found it's way to my doorstep

And yes, those are Jim's old Baldwin F3's on the outside track patiently waiting for who knows what!!

Hmm - I wonder if I should do a tank car book? I would need a couple more 12,000 gal Lobaugh tanks.
