A man in Jacksonville calls his son in San Diego the day before Thanksgiving and says, 'I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.

'Pop, what are you talking about?' the son screams.
We can't stand the sight of each other any longer,' the father says. 'We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Denver and tell her.'

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. 'Like hell they're getting divorced,' she shouts, 'I'll take care of this,'

She calls Jacksonville immediately, and screams at her father, 'You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?' and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. 'Okay,' he says, 'they're coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own way.'

The kids... "...coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own way."
I don't think any of you are old enough to really appreciate that.

Wayne:

Of my three kids, my daughter and son-in-law are coming for thanksgiving with the 3 grandkids. My youngest son who lives in the area with his SO and her 4 kids and a grandchild are coming over after dinner and spending time with us to watch football watch all the kids and play board games until everyone leaves. I guess that should be a house full. My oldest son who lives in Conn. with his wife probably won't make it. Hope we can find a turkey big enough for us all, so I can have some left over for sandwiches.

Remember? "Over the river and through the woods to Grandmothers house we go?" :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Anyone need any prints? Sorry, none are train related.

Let me mention that I have seen all of these prints, and the on-screen reproductions does none of them one iota of justice. They are all gorgeous, and if anyone is interested in a close-up, I'll be glad to take a pic and send it along.

(Tramp, nice photograph of the artist. My compliments to the photographer!)

Daughters. (*sigh*)

My nine year old, late last summer, all bent out of shape because I was knocking apart the decrepit swing set that was all bent and rusted. Said I was "tearing apart" her memories, of all the fun she had had on that thing, with family and friends. Tried to explain, then rationalize, then mollify her, all to little avail. But I had work to do, I finished up, and I carted it off to the dump.

Well, yesterday, in our so-called 'mud room', there had lain a braided rug these many years, which had seen it's share of mud, spills, and dog and rabbit pee, it's bouquet gradually becoming more resistant to the carpet shampooer, until the redhead finally issued an executive order. I dutifully rolled it up and lugged it out of the house, and yes, of course, to the shrill protests of afore-mentioned daughter, accusing me all over again of 'ruining her memories', because she had spent so many happy hours playing on that rug.

This one was simple. "It stinks. It's going. We can get another."

Woe be to the dad who underestimates the female resolve.

I got the glare and the cold shoulder for the rest of the day and evening, only to find her going off to bed with fresh recriminations and eyes full of tears.

So I followed her up, and we sat and talked for a half hour, about good intentions and letting things go and memories never go away and nothing lasts forever and feeling sad about losses and that I still loved her more than anything else in the world, and we had a nice talk and kissed and made up.

So I said "Good Night" and I was about to get up and head back downstairs and she says 'Dad, there's something else...'

...and she pulls out a small cloth bag, carefully tied....

... and inside I find...

...all the nuts and bolts from the swing set that she had retrieved from the garage bin for keepsakes, after I left for the dump.

LMAO!

Daughters. (*sigh*)

Heaven help me.

 8) :D

Pete, did you click on each print image to enlarge them?

I didn't credit you for the photograph. I'll have the guy do that.

Good God, man, stop at once!
No credit necessary or desired. It was just an inside joke. Spare the poor guy.
(It was all I could do to get the d*mn picture in the first place.)

Re: the prints:
Yes, I saw them enlarged. My opinion stands, and I could not feel more strongly, and the offer stands for anyone who desires a close-up, and you will immediately see what I mean.

I have a feeling, sir, that you had a few more thoughts and feelings inside than just LMAO. And Heaven has already helped you, for you and your daughter are, clearly, Blessings to each other.

Tramp, thank you for asking, things are OK for now. There is a rising Santa Ana, and that's got my antenna up, but nothing serious here, just north in Santa Barbara. It has got abnormally hot here in the last hour. Santa Ana conditions are supposed to cause all manner of maladies, murders, crimes, and the like. I checked on Jahan a few minutes ago and she gave me a kiss, so I think we are OK. After being married for 31 years, I can see she is thinking "what if I have to put all that stuff in the cars again and get out of here". It's amazing, so much can be said with a look, a nod, and an embrace. I say, "I know, it's on my mind".

Dirt, what can I say. Daughters. We still have Rosie's algebra books. With her notes in them. That's why they don't get tossed.

Am reading "One minute to midnight". As I and some of you lived through it (I remember JFK's TV announcement like it was yesterday), it is riveting.
