Rich—college students taking Drawing 1. Why did you single out the last student? She made many tries at the pine cone. Maybe five failed attempts. Finally, after much instruction, she spent most of a weekend creating that result. I was very pleased as you might imagine.

All the drawings are very respectable efforts, but to my eyes the last one is a cut or two above the others. I have no trouble discerning what the students are drawing, but they are a bit "stylized" or lacking in realism and detail when compared with the last drawing.

That says two things to me: First you did an excellent job conveying information to this student and second, she did an equally good job applying that instruction.

Jon, the beverage whistle just blew from way down the club car. Should be here any moment if my tipping did its work. Can you hear it? Those creaking wheels need some WD-40, but who has time to oil the cart when we're oiling ourselves.

When does your new engine arrive? How's the sound on the Atlas?

Rich, the last drawing is certainly the best portrait of a pine cone. I bet a person could find that very pine cone out of twelve if they had to.

I have not yet checked the two references you have in the above post but I will.
Want to ask and say somethings before I get distracted by more of your beautiful stuff.
What sound system are you using?Remember that I am getting old but the sound is very near
to what I remember from my younger days when the PRR still existed.
Are you going to go all the way to 2 rail or will the 3 rail continue its peaceful co-existence?
You can have the best of both worlds.
There goes my envy again.Show us more.

That was a treat, Tramp, thanks, and you're right, those were great weeds. Also, I must admit, even though I am a 3-railer, those 2-rail tracks,whether HO or O, do add significant realism to a scene.

Regarding 3-rails, frankly, I got into this hobby because my dad had Lionel trains (and some HO, but they were always too delicate for my tastes) when I was a boy. Once I was married and had a house, I went straight for what I knew - Lionel. It wasn't until thousands of dollars later that I learned there even was such a thing as 2-rail in "O". So I figured, what-the-hell, I'm in it this deep, what does it matter. Perhaps, that is why I try to model realistic scenery for layouts , to try to compensate for and distract from those 3-rails. Yet, I must admit, I sure appreciate seeing 2-rails, no matter the scale. Train layouts are things to be enjoyed, not hotly debated, IMHO. And besides , "Z", "N", "HO", "S", "O" , "On3", etc, they make some hobbyist happy. What more is there to say, I feel.
