That earlier picture does show truss rods. Earlier cars had smaller queen posts for the truss rods or just grooved pads for the truss rods to rest on; they are not always easy to see in some camera angles.

Today there still are power poles on one side of the street and telephone poles on the other. The brick building in the old photo has been replaced with a new, slightly smaller building and there is a new brick church as its neighbor. Farther up Fannettsburg Rd W I found this old church.

I'm sort of surprised that there were phone lines at all in that part of the country at that time. Someday I'll have to get one installed at my place, I guess. Civilization seems to be creeping up the valley......

Not sure if it's all that "new" if it's the one near the intersection of Fannettsburg Rd and Rt 75,

Drove by the one in the picture you captured a few months ago. It's in the east side of town along Fannettsburg Rd. Loved that garage door in the one side and the church window with louvers on the front and the rotated bell tower. Great prototype for a model!

I should really just take a few hours with the camera and tripod to take photos of several of the buildings along that part of town. The history of that area goes back well before the Revolutionary War

What I find esp. interesting about that church photo is the garage (delivery?) door in the left side, of the building, not exactly what I am accustomed to (having never seen such a thing) seeing in the typical (Catholic) church sanctuary - necessary for quite a shipment of what? Maybe for storage, like of that tractor that got left outside:? That doesn't leave much room for the congregation in the building, does it.

P.S. I wouldn't model it, though. I don't like seeing churches in decay (I've seen a couple when I travel Upstate NY, too.) All the churches I have on my layout are in good shape, as an expression of a personal preference.

The more I look at it, the more I thnk I need to get a few pictures of the other side and around back next weekend.

I already have the one church that my layout calls for:







but this church converted to a garage, and now abandoned is neat and filled with character.
