If you look at the joints in the horizontal deck stringers you can see that they are centered on the stone piers, as they need to be.

There is little, if any, foundation support under the timbers, indicating a temporary use to support the bridge deck sections while the capstones are replaced, maybe with thicker ones where the stone foundations might have settled. Or maybe the entire bridge is being raised to better align it with the railroad grade?

Just my 2 cents worth. Oops! Better make it a quarter these days!

As I read the back of the photo, that's actually the family that was traveling about with the father and the photographer doing the photobombing.

Yes, it is neat.
Check this one out. I've had it for years on the layout as a derelict place. Two transients and their dog occupy it now. Don't know why I ever liked it, just do.

One last look at the TVRR for a while.....or until I manage to score some more photos....looks like #5 with a PRR hopper up above at Port Royal; taking on coal maybe?

"Taking on coal maybe..." very interesting. I wish the photographer had moved more to the left so we could see that operation, esp. the equipment. But I think you deduced what's happening there correctly, since once you said it, my imagination is making that work with what is visible at the rear of that tender. Very interesting shot, indeed.

Also have to consider that the TVRR was a 3' narrow gauge line and given the marginal operations budget that this RR had, they probably didn't have the coaling tower that we associate with larger RR's. Might be a guy back there shoveling it off a transfer platform from that PRR hopper's discharge.

You have quite an eye, Tom ! I wouldn't have spotted that at all. I saw the beam lying perpendicular to the ties and concluded it was a RR-tie awaiting future installment, but I had no idea what else it might have indicated.

That is a very interesting and informative assessment, there, Tony-h. I'm pretty sure I just got educated a bit more.
