I watched a show not long ago about a Brit that was restoring a Spitfire, the guy even got his aircraft mechanics/engine license so he could rebuild the engine! Ended up getting jobs rebuilding engines for other restorers as well.

What I like about some of these shows is when they reunite the plane with it's pilot.

I had this "cap"-looking thing I got from my dad, who was in the 9th Air Force in England, for a long time never knew what it was.

One day I was looking at photos of B-17s and spotted it, it was the cap that goes over the steering wheel retaining nut, even has a serial/part number inside it.

Just so you know when you tell this story again. they're called "Control Yokes" in an aircraft, not steering wheels. But, you are absolutely correct Bob. Watching the guys who flew any of the aircraft being restored is a treat. So many memories. You can just see it in their faces.

All those people holding up the flap while it was being installed is incredible. That is teamwork.
