This item appeals to me. I have one of these kits but a couple of the etchings were damaged when I bought it. Over the past 10 years, I tried to purchase replacements but never could get a response from Backwoods Miniatures. Many times I thought about just making new pieces but, like so many projects, I never got around to it. I hope other bidders realize the kit is not complete......we'll see.

If I can score this I can replace the defective parts and place the kit in my "Future Estate Sale Inventory"

Actually I would be more interested in the CLW F B Unit but I think I will pass. I am currently assembling five complete CLW F Units, 3 F-7 ABA and 2 F3 A Units along with 2 more older basic CLW mechanisms with Blomberg trucks that came from the Carvey Davis estate. Does anyone have a spare CLW open frame motor with double shafts drilled for installing the cotter or roll pins? One of the original CLW open frame motors I have is not good, drawing over 5 amps.

I should finish all of the mechanisms this week and may substitute a Pittman can motor for the bad open frame motor. I believe CLW really improved their mechanisms when they went with the Pittman can motors and chain tower drive. The older direct drive with the motor in line between the trucks has very little clearance for the swivel coupling assemblies between the motor and the trucks. It can be made to work with a good deal of fiddling.

We've been running a lot of Central locomotives on my Dad's layouts for many years and what we have found is crud (that is the technical term) tends to build up between the commutators on the armature. It must be from the brushes. Anyway, it ends up causing a large current draw on the motor, on the order of a few amps. This seems to happen after several years of running. If we carefully clean that crud out the current draw will go back to less than an amp.

Thanks, I will take a look at that but this is a brand new motor so I don't think that is the problem. It became over heated when bench testing and I think some of the armature windings are shorted. (My fault)
