He started a Lobaugh "lost wax" 0-6-0 at $80, and as of right now it is half the price of a not rusty one. I bet that rust comes right off.

These things have been selling between $350 and $400 for the last four decades, which means their true value is dropping with inflation. If I did not already have enough Lobaugh, I would bid right up to $200.

OK, lets approach this from another angle: IF I were to bid and win this item, how much would YOU charge me to restore it?

But if you do win it, I might be persuaded to clean the rust off, check the motor, bead blast it and hit it with some nice black paint for you. This is a hobby, and this prize is for someone who enjoys resurrecting old models.

Wow some folks cannot see a diamond in the rough ... it's a Lobaugh ...

blame poor storage ... a flood , high humidity, leaky roof ....

some one dies ...and the layout / collection sits in the basement /attic / garage for 10-20 years ...

hopefully we all perfectly climate controlled collections so nothing like this happens .... even Jim Seacrest had a flood or something as several of his pieces had experienced higher degrees of humidity then manufactures specs suggests ... reality happens ...

As Bob says .... some carefully applied love and the little 060 will be ready for another 70 + years of shunting cars .

Bob, I appreciate the offer, but I won't be bidding. I was just looking for a sort of way to compare it to other models. I don't do "OLDE" trains, but I do indulge in a couple other hobbies where that term comes into play. Most of the value antique/vintage stuff is derived from how much of the piece is original and after this one is restored, I think that answer is "precious little". Where is the point when you just toss some of this stuff into the trash?

E7 if I was missing my spectacles I would not have posted it as the bids did not seem to match what I was looking at. Without them it would have looked like a Glacier Park SP 0-6-0!!!!!!

So I was sort of right, a Lobaugh instead of an Ichen but being more into "modern" brass, I cannot believe what they bring................
