I don't think anyone is questioning what you like/build/restore. It's just that some of us think the particular loco in question is a piece of junk. Like beauty, TRASH is in the eye of the beholder.

Similarly, boring is in the eye of the beholder - but if a wall full of Lobaugh 0-6-0's is what does it for you, they are more than available and plentiful.

I guess I'm sorta interested because I've seen what can be done with them and I have extra parts for every item on the model.

When built/rebuilt with a NWSL BB gearbox and a Maxon motor w/flywheel they can be made to run better than any other steam engine model commercially available. Because of their weight they are very good pullers. Replace all the old crude castings (yeah they were lost wax but still crude) with with better versions, nice paint, decals, modern lighting, and you have a very nice model.

With said Maxon motor, rated at .85 amps, I can slip the drivers and .75 amps.

If I wasn't so busy playing with all these other toys I'd be tempted to bid on the model and document it's rebirth.

@Jay................Maxxon is my motor of choice now for re-powering O scale. I've had some Faulhaber duds that wouldn't power a 2-8-2T up a 1% grade by itself! If I HAVE to use one I make sure it's a rare earth magnet and they get quite expensive................

I am also a fan of the Maxon for re-powering O scale locos. Their high torque and low current draw even at stall allowed me to use the 1 amp Soundtraxx Tsunami in 2-8-0 or 4-6-0 sized locos without using a second higher current decoder for motor only control.

Not to split hairs or get into any kind of disagreement but, Maxon or Faulhaber are pretty much equals in my mind. The critical issue is getting the correct motor for the application.

When I was looking for motors to power the Lobaugh 0-6-0s Maxon made what I needed. Other times Faulhaber works better.

If the motor you're trying to use doesn't give me the desired results I would probably blame the motor last.

Bottom line, use the manufacturer's spec sheets and get the motor suited to your needs. With these two manufacturer's saying one is better than the other can't be backed up with factual data.

I went back and looked the motor is a Maxon 222049. I wanted a flywheel so it has a double shaft. With the new Keep Alives you may not need it (I like them anyway).

I took some photos of a couple of the Loubaugh 0-6-0s that have been collecting dust & dirt for the last 10 years. Yeah, I really need to finish them.















Man, I thought these things were dirty and tarnished but after taking these photos......it's far worse than I thought.

That is true. You probably cannot buy upgraded models like these. The detail is as good as any import. I have never seen better Lobaugh 0-6-0s anywhere.

Dirtbag = $300. These - lucky to get one for a grand. Nobody will upgrade one to that level for a grand; you will have to wait for Jay to get bored with them.

Thank you for the compliments and encouragement. I really do need to get back to building/working on my locos. Someday soon.....hopefully.

The queue is so large I find it's easier to just keep telling myself, I'll get on these soon!
