Honestly the man needs more tutoring in everything. If we ran into him at a train show we all be thinking "what a bigmouth, uncouth, uneducated bore". But, acting lessons might allow him to be more believable when he reads his statements written by someone else. I find it uncomfortable to listen to him anymore. If he wasn't the president and a billionaire, I'd feel sorry for him.

I had heard, as a onetime resident and short-term mill laborer in that area, that the high wages forced by the union caused prices for steel to go so high that it became cheaper to ship the raw materials and the finished products to and from Japan than to continue to make steel in the USA . I don't know that as a fact. When I ask friends and former classmates in Pittsburgh about what happened, I get a wide variety of replies and analyses .

US UAW auto worker average hourly wage. $35 dollars + health care and retirement benefits. Same auto worker in Mexico $6 dollars. No benefits

The steel mills were required to comply with environmental regulations. Better to let China pollute their county and kill their people. There was a big concern years ago about acid rain caused by smoke stack America

The most heard reason in the upper Ohio Valley for the demise of most industries in the area was the strict enforcement of environmental laws.
Many mills and factories found it was cheaper to build a new plant in a different part of the country using newer technology or to go to a different country. More recently the coal industry was affected similarly with lower emissions coal from Wyoming being moved to the east and south. Although it burns cleaner it doesn't burn as hot and coal from the east was being added to it which added to the cost. So as mentioned above it was cheaper to just send the whole mess to another country and save money. Sothis leaves the electric power industry as the large user of coal and we all know using coal is a bad thing so energy costs continue to rise.
