That's an interesting coincidence -- I had never heard of these before somebody gave me one not long ago:

Those high pipes above the ends were used to load a string of these from just one end. Neat idea, but I'm guessing that means it would not be common to see just one by its lonesome self (dang). I was told this was a resin kit produced by Ed Reutling (Ruetling?). I have one of his Ingalls GM&O models, which is also resin, so it could be. Any idea, Jon?

Jim, I’m not sure about your tank car. Mine is by Lionel. A string of 5 or 6 is my eventual goal, but I’ve only purchased this one so far to make sure it can be 2 railed with no issues.

Those high pipes are JATO nozzles. When there is a motive power shortage, they load the cars with JP-4, place car at end of train, wait for the green and hold up the Zippo.

Would they need vacuum on the backend? Or do you think natural flow would push out the air ?

Back in the mid-1980s, Conrail used to run a unit train of those cars from the Port of Albany, NY to Oswego, NY. The train ran over the former-NYC water level route from Albany to Solvay, where it switched onto Conrail's Baldwinsville Seconday to get to Oswego. I think I remember seeing it take the controlled siding in Utica and, another time, it came thru the fairgrounds entrance while we were at the State Fair.

Hello O scale world
Here are a few tank cars to add to the train


left 1/4" ....top wood tank wrapped with paper, middle Scale Craft ..open to suggestions as to makers .right 17/64ths .... top to bottom Mi Loco (cast aluminum) , Mini -Scale (die-cast ) , and a mystery ...but nicely done .

Bottom left might be International.

I don't know what the bottom right is, but if brass with sand cast frame parts, I have three of them, and consider them among my most valued.

Middle left, on first glance, with truck sideframe retaining clips and oversized rivets along the top of the tank makes it SC
Top left may be a SC frame.

Trouble with top left is wood dowel tank, drawn on straps, homemade dome (or so one photo would indicate).
Still think SC frame, but Lionels are close.
I have one or two tanks here that are "messed with" and relegated to three rail.

Off-topic, but related: the only plastic model I really think highly of - both from Becker, on 11th Street, back in the days when Peter Witt streetcars roamed out front. fifteen bucks each.
