Mexico just had their election for a new president and other elected officials. In Mexico you can only serve one 6 year term and yet Mexico has been labeled as one of the most corrupt governments. But they recently changed to two 6 years terms for senators.

Dworak and others say voters have been unable to punish or reward politicians for their performance in office because of a ban on re-election that goes back to the 1920s. That has resulted in an emphasis on short-term planning by public officials who rarely proposed projects that would not be completed during their three-year term.

In Congress, Dworak says, few lawmakers spend enough time in office to become expert in any areas such as finance, security or foreign policy — unlike their U.S. counterparts.

A Connecticut man who was assaulted by three juveniles while at work has been sentenced to prison for stabbing one of the attackers.

The Connecticut Post reports 21-year-old Jeffrey Sumpter of Bridgeport received 18 months in jail Monday at a Stamford courthouse.

The paper reported that Sumpter — who was convicted of felony first-degree assault — also will have to spend three years following his release on probation. If he breaks the law during that time, Sumpter could be made to serve all or part of a 42-month prison sentence.

Sumpter was working at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Norwalk last October when he was jumped by three males. During the assault, Sumpter stabbed one of them in the leg.

“I was defending myself,” Sumpter said during the hearing.

Judge John Blawie told Sumpter that he believed his version of events, but had to follow the letter of the law.

Under Connecticut law, assault victims cannot use deadly force if they are able to retreat from their attackers.

By contrast, 27 states — most notably Florida — have passed so-called “stand-your-ground” laws, which entitle citizens to use force in self-defense if there is a reasonable belief of a threat.

Curiously, no information as to the fates of the 3 juveniles.......but then again, network news presents what it wants to inflame and incite, and to sell commercial time.

Speaking of outrageous, why isn't every power on Earth, every country, and every pertinent business doing everything that can be possibly be done to get those boys out of that cave in Thailand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, one of the rescuers has died - drowned - which should put further concern and urgency in everybody's hearts. If those boys have to wait until OCTOBER to be freed, let along spend a single other day in there, it would a disgrace on the entire world.

Can earthmover companies, like CAT, do something like excavating in from above or from the side? Can a hole be dug from under that middle chamber with the most water in it, to empty it?

Can oil-drilling companies send equipment?

Can manufacturers of scuba gear send specialized tanks so the boys can be removed one at a tine, with a tank trailing each one of them or leading each one out of there, under the water in that long, main chamber?

Can the boys be sedated enough to be removed without them being cognizant of what is happening, with an oxygen catheter inserted in their noses to give them air as they are pulled and held, one at a time, thru the maze of narrow tunnels, and OUT!?

Imagine. What if President Trump, or Queen Elizabeth, or Pope Francis had gone spelunking into there and had gotten trapped - can you imagine what would already have been done to have removed them DAYS ago! Each of those boys is equally as valuable to all of us.

I'd bet that all that has been offered and what can be applied is in use - they are ~1/2 mile down........drilling in a cave area is probably impossible without causing worse problems like collapsing the entire structure over them. Those boys do not know how to swim; scuba - well, can you learn to use it underground while also unable to swim and also being malnourished? Sedating hem would probably put them at risk immediately. But, maybe the scuba thing while being carried, but we really have no idea how hard it is to traverse the pathway out, how narrow, how complicated, etc.

It might have been better if they were not found.
We will be watching now as they die one at a time and nothing can be done to save them.

Reminds me of a Playhouse 90 or some other TV weekly drama my parents watched in the late 50's. This one episode was about a man or two who were trapped and the news was all around covering the event. Tried several different ways to save him, but in the end he or they died. Left a very dismal image in my mind and I've never forgotten it. I think Kirk Douglas played in another movie (Ace in the Hole) where he made a circus of trying to save a trapped miner who died too.

I hate caves and would never go in one. I know that's stupid, but these early impressions have scarred me for life.

You're right Roger,if those kids die on international TV, it will be disgusting to say the least. If the news companies really felt sorry for the victims they wouldn't show photos or live coverage, but they will.
