Michigan term limits do not apply to federal elected positions (aka US Congress/Senate), only to state and local positions.

Michigan also blocked straight ticket voting so you can't do "one and done". Even when we could do that, we really couldn't because of the non-partisan sections, proposals, etc were separate blocks to fill out (or ignore).

When I started this thread it was about impeachment. I figured that when the democrats had control of the house the first item on their agenda would be impeachment. They didn't disappoint me on that. That was the agenda before Trump was even inaugurated.

on the first day of Democratic control of the House, another Democrat, Rep. Brad Sherman, filed a resolution of impeachment. Sherman's resolution was later co-sponsored by another colleague, Democratic Rep. Al Green.

Now Nancy Pelosi has to decide to go with it or not.

Is it now politically correct to use the term "MOFO" by all members of congress.

I suspect that they do exist in an endangered species sort of way; however, they are very careful to not catch the eye of any cameras.

One of the guys I worked with in my first career, was HEAVY into politics. He made the statement:" If they aren't crooks when they go in, they are by the time they go out!" Probably a high percentage of accuracy there!

This is NOT meant to be a smart *ss response: One thing for certain: If they are NOT proposed, they will never happen.

I don't know ANYTHING about Michigan voting laws, but I think forcing people to vote who don't care and have NO clue, is a recipe for disaster.

I worked as a civilian employee for the Army Corps of Engineers for eight years. Anything involving money was very tightly controlled. Of the 1,000 or so employees for the district about 10 were military, the rest were civilians. None of the people I worked with were anything but professional. I can say the same about the hundreds of staff that we worked with from other agencies. The "cookie jar(s)" were locked up and protected by all sorts of booby traps. The rules/regulations are so strict it's difficult to make legitimate purchases.

While you cite "politicians" (aka people elected to office) in your post, you lump them in with "civil servants" and the vast majority of civil servants are not "politicians". They are not crooked/lazy/stupid or whatever other derogatory term you wish to apply. These include most first responders, law enforcement, the staff of the CDC, Air Traffic Controllers, .... aka people who have chosen lines of work to protect and serve the rest of us.

BTW, we don't make people vote.

Not at the federal level.

Seriously, most of those are actually contract workers doing working for a government unit. I did spend one year in the soils department and most of that time was field work collecting samples provided by contractors who did the drilling under government contract. One COE guy, four or five guys working for the drilling company.

Since I spent most of my time working in the regulatory branch I did have a lot of contact with state and local units. We did see more of a "fast and loose" attitude the farther down the food chain you went, either directly or by inference (why can't you do this, the township guy let me). Really local was usually the worst. By the time you get to the state level there is enough oversight that it's hard to get away with anything.

Rashida Tlaib, who was sworn in on Thursday, said "we're gonna impeach the motherf-----" during a celebration party with supporters.

Taking this a different direction, I'm getting quite fed up with many of the women in politics. We are in a new style of serious trouble in this country and I am at odds with many of their beliefs. Sort of like a Bernie Sanders on steroids. Great ideas, with no way possible to make them happen, but they sound good, so the mindless minions are ready to follow.

But, I guess most of us are mindless minions when it comes to politics!

Chuck, Your level-headed and well-informed viewpoint is refreshing and more than hugely welcome, as far as I am concerned, in this topic. Your voice-of-experience rings true.

The otherwise caustic viewpoints espousing that ALL "politicians" and/or elected officials are the bad guys is hogwash, and too easily spouted, especially, perhaps, by those who have never had the courage or selflessness to run-for-office themselves. It's very, very easy to throw stones, pretending to do so by standing on an allegedly superior vantage point. It is far more difficult to bend over and pick up the stones and do something constructive with them.
That's my viewpoint. Period.

She took her oath of office on the Koran (Quran), the separation of church and state is a Western phenomenon, not often accepted by Muslims. “In the Islamic context, the independence and initiative of the civil society may best be measured not in relation to the state, but in relation to religion, of which, in the Muslim perception, the state itself is a manifestation and an instrument.

The House of Representatives is moving to change the dress code to allow the Muslim women to wear their religious head scarfs "hijab"? on the house floor while in session. I personally could care less what the women wear. My question would be are we now going to allow religion back into our government.

After 30+ years in the Fed. Govt, I may have slightly biased viewpoint having seen the operations of the Gov't very up close at nearly all levels.

All this lumping in of the vast majority of civil servants as being crooked/lazy/stupid or whatever is taught and embraced mythology.

As for women in elected positions; better get used to it real fast and lose any preconceived notions about what women should and should do or how they should behave - they are ~50% of the country and they vote.

I'm all for stepping aside and let the women run everything. They can't make a bigger mess of everything than the men have.

Maybe they will be more resistant to starting wars.
