Horse harness pre-set, dropped onto horses, who responded immediately to the fire bell. Steam was raised on the way to the fire.

Museum has a demonstration day with the steam pumpers, in June, as I recall. Close to many of you. The steam pumpers can shoot a stream amazingly high.

In so many of the enjoyable photos you have posted from that general circa, I have noticed the young men, and many of the older gents, posing with hands-on-hips, leaning on elbows, and with hats raked (avoiding any appearance of trying too hard, or being effete or pretentious?) Add to that their consistently being narrow-waisted and trim overall, and they seem to me to be a pretty spirited and athletically disposed segment of the population. We don't see many body-fat index busters, do we.
