Something like that - they shared the station in Hagerstown through the CVRR.....

Hailstorm June 6 1917 Waynesboro Penn

Might have been some serious hail!

If it did that kind of damage to the road I can only imagine the damage to the roofs of the houses....

Would you say that had been a dirt road, with cement sidewalks?

Yes, it seems a bit odd, to have concrete sidewalks on an entirely unpaved road. It looks as if there are even storm drains under the street.

I have seen that done, but I am not sure what the story is here. Center looks like some some of smooth material.

Not sure when black top was used commonly in PA. PA was very fond of cement roads,

I was told that the sidewalks were paved in towns to make them more city like
and the roads were often left dirt because it was easier for the horses to walk on.
The roads were paved when motorized vehicles started to predominate.
Info was from my grand father and grand mother who were born in the late 1800s.

Thanks, Roger. Correlates with what I've seen in other photos and even in some other cards that I've posted here in the past.

Interesting. My grandparents were born in the 1890's, yet, you're 15,000 years or more older than me. How can that be?

Interesting to learn that perspective from you, Roger, kind of firsthand info.
