I picked up this 1974 Tonka Diorama Model O scale 1/48 1853 Pioneer Train Kit ~ Brand New about 25 years ago at a flea market. Didn't pay a lot for it.

There are actually 2 different ones that Tonka did - the other relates to the burning of Chambersburg.

I have a relatively poor model of a similar paycar:

It needs some work to make it really presentable.

Pay car model is an Ambroid kit car from a Virginia & Truckee prototype.

The CVRR combine car is at the PRR museum in Strasburg.

Thank you, I did not know that. Note also that it is just resting on mis-matched trucks for the photo shoot. I beieve that I have a suitable set of Lobaughs for it.

A set of Lobaughs would put the weight where it's probably needed, too.

Exactly, that was one of my thoughts; for its size, it is really quite light.

Seems that most of the photos of the sports teams of this era carried a minimal rosters + 1-2 more.

Now we have entire mobs on the sidelines at college football games......

Back in those days they usually could play any position on a team AND they played all of the time unless they broke something.

Basketball is so irritating, so stupefyingly boring, and is played by such horrifyingly ugly people, that it must be a level of Dante's hell.

Sign of the apocalypse...vigorously agreeing with Roy :)

NBA playoff basketball is pretty good...the games actually mean something at this point.

Like all professional sports, we've collectively grown numb to the skills demonstrated on the court/diamond/grid-iron. Try hitting an NBA 3-pointer three-out-of-four, or catch a major league fly-ball hit to the deep outfield, or catch a sixty-yard pass (even without some guy hanging all over you).

Of course, none of it is worth $30+ million per year to do it.
