Well, Nov. is coming up -- going to interesting to see how elections might be impacted.......conventions.......primaries......

Sadly, we don't get rookies; we get more of the same with different names. Meet the new boss; same as the old boss.

Question.

Was bailing out Chrysler back in the 80s socialism. What about bailing out GM and Chrysler in 2009

Chrysler paid back the money with interest in the 80s. A lot of union workers jobs were on the line. Maybe it would have been better to let them all go bankrupt.

As I recall all of them paid back the money ?

If they do come up with a stimulus package. I don't need the money. If I receive any I will use it to help those less fortunate and I will pay the tax on it also. :)

Forget the wall just let everyone in, give them a tent and send them to California. Wont be any jobs for them so let Cali take care of them.

Put them out in the fields to pick veggies. They won;t have to worry about the China virus but the will be lucky if they survive Valley Fever. No cure for it either.

If the fear of virus goes on long enough. Trump can postpone the election. Something wrong about this virus fear. !5,000 people died world wide.
In the USA every year 47,000 die from kidney disease. 647,000 die from heart disease. (that's every 37 seconds). liver disease 35,000. alcohol kills 88,000. car accidents kill 1.25 million a year or 3,287 a day. If we stopped driving for 5 days. More lives would be saved then the virus killed. less panic and fear also. why did the virus get so much hype?

Because of the contagion factor. This is a truly scary combination of infection and mortality. If we don't take steps to dramatically reduce the numbers of affected/infected people you will start seeing the numbers of dead skyrocketing.

We could go the route of writing off the elderly and immunocompromised, aka not treat them and let them die. Are you ready to support that kind of program? Sorry you got sick, now please just go away and die, preferably as quickly and quietly as possible so the rest of us can get on with whatever is left of our lives.

This is a war. A war with a merciless and unknowing/uncaring enemy. It does not react to bluster or threats. The quicker EVERYONE realizes this and starts taking this seriously and doing the hard things that need to be done the quicker we will make it through it.

Really easy and I've posted this before. Figure 150 million infected conservatively. Figure 2-5% mortality rate overall. Figure a little under a million dead. Could double all that pretty easily.

Maybe with the lock down status in a lot of states that car accident number will drop.....but there is no cure for stupidity and lot of car accidents have that as their cause. And, just about all the others you listed have a preventable aspect.

Covid-19. No vaccine (come back next year for that....maybe) and no real therapy as yet; yes, Gilead drug got orphan status approval but they are effectively out of stock......

I know we went through the numbers. I just have trouble adding it up or believing it. I'm a very skeptical person with everything. If it's that deadly. Maybe the media should stop showing stud athletes saying " I had it and feel fine." What's the point of making more test kits? If there is no cure. You got it. know what? sit at home for 15 days. One thing to come out of this is. a large amount of people only care about themselves. I see cars full of people not as many cars but most have 2 or 3 people in them. Might be time to shut down the post office. Stop that guy from ringing twice. I don't have any of the answers. hopefully people smarter then me will. Not people who stand to gain more then me

the only thing we have to fear is fear itself

That may have been true in 1941. Everyone's greatest fear now is we don't know what the h*ll is going on. In an age of near instant communication we have instant confusion. Our "leaders" and large segments of the population are acting in spectacularly stupid fashion.

We can and will get through this. While the grotesquely stupid are gathering most of the headlines, the vast majority seem to be responding in positive ways. Looking out for each other and working in ways to try to make things better.

That's what the governor's are supposed to do. It's their job. Otherwise they are not needed.

Yes; maybe Congress and the WH could take notes - there's going to be a test later this year. Wonder how many will get a passing grade.....

California, who would boast the world’s fifth-largest eoconomy if it was an independent nation, has been hit hard economically by the coronavirus pandemic. About 3.7 million people have filed unemployment claims in the state since mid-March.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom's decision to borrow money from the federal government to make unemployment payments to those left without work due to the coronavirus pandemic.

California borrowed $348 million after receiving approval to use up to $10 billion in federal funds until the end of July, a Treasury Department spokesman told the Wall Street Journal on Monday.

Illinois and Connecticut have also been approved to tap into federal funds to aid with the unemployment claims -- $12.6 billion and $1.1 billion, respectively – but neither state had requested to borrow the money as of the end of April.

Although unusual, I have no problem funding unemployment payments due to virus with Fed Funds as long as it goes to US citizens. I'm surprised there have been no qualifiers, especially if that state has sanctuary cities. I just don't want states who were bankrupt before the virus being bailed out Carte Blanche. There is so much oversight needed I don't know how it can be accomplished. But, you can bet any honest mistakes will be magnified and screamed about by the liberal media. Be nice if they saw the glass as half full, instead of half empty all the time, but they have their agenda to accomplish and hold the bully pulpit in this country, so what they say is gospel and they are seldom held accountable for their mistakes, honest or otherwise.

I applied for unemployment in Penna. On March 19th i made a claim. May 6th i have not received any funds yet. all i can get from the state is busy signals and timed out internet connections. almost 2 million people in Pennsylvania have filed. I can understand why the state is having problems. after 2 months of running through savings i'm still fine (not where i'd like to be). I'm sure many people are in the same boat with the state. problem is many had no real savings. Their boat may be sinking fast.
Every night on the news they show folks in dire need of their unemployment funds. all the state Reps will do is push the blame around. Our computer system was designed in the 70's it can't handle the influx. Its a cluster f**k.

The lack of savings has been a real disaster waiting to happen and only took a little push for it to surface in this country. It's been spend it all, live for today, and run up that debt............

Their boat may be sinking fast.

It's been sinking w/o them paying any attention for years; now their feet are getting wet and they are looking for hand outs.

I think it might have been Conn that had to go find retirees to come in to work on their state's computer system & software; never designed to handle the numbers.

This entire thing is revealing way too many weak links and repairs made by bubblegum and baling wire, and lots of band-aids over problems just waiting for a disaster to hit.
