That one resold for $379.95 buy-it-now, so the ebay seller doubled their money, minus ebay fees & auction house commission.... imho, that is a pretty good return for simply reposting the auction house photos on ebay.

Did it sell at Seacrest for too little? Is the VC selling it for too much? Is there more value to be squeezed from the item?

Just bumping this thread with three brass diesels that sold on ebay last month:

Oriental SD45T-2, with detached stanchions and tank drive, that sold for $1,650 on February 20, 2022

Overland GP40-2 painted as D&RGW #3123 (without box) that sold for $1,580 on February 20, 2022

Overland GP40-2 painted as D&RGW #3154 (without box) that sold for $2,247.22 (!!!!) on February 20, 2022

They're very nicely done models, but the selling prices of the first two are about twice as much what similar models were selling for pre-pandemic - and the other one, the one that sold for $2,247, is about three times what I think it would have sold for pre-pandemic. I do understand why someone paid that much for those pieces - nobody has announced any plans to make similar quality GP40-2s in O, plus the buyer probably figured he/she is going to die of old age before his/her MMW SD45T-2 arrives.

I just saw where a ticket for the inaugural Masters golf tournament (1934) with some of the players autographs sold for $600K. It eclipsed the previous record holder, a ticket for Jackie Robinson's first game (presuming here it was first big league game) at $460K. I suppose if you were a billionaire it wouldn't be a big deal.

Considering the price of some of the stuff, I thought he may have been shooting to join the 'just write a check' crowd. I wonder how our forum mate who had his engine at Erik's to be re-motored circa 10 years made out?

Thinking all those brass bodies in some of those images a while back, I find it interesting that no finished pieces have been sighted. Almost as strange as the 10 year re-motor. Not much on NK, but I haven't really been looking over there.

Maybe the BIG reveal will happen at Chicago?

Just my humble opinion, but prices are through the roof on everything and going higher. Any collectible from classic cars to model trains is bringing record money.

Concerning brass models, as long as it has a decent paint job, the sky seems to be the limit with some buyers. The prices paid for these models in discussion is utterly ridiculous...........especially that tank drive model.

Yet, I see unpainted models not selling in many cases, so buyers are wanting RTR models, like they would get from Atlas or 3rd Rail or ???? There's a mint or new unpainted Westside Bigboy on EB right now for $1500 and no bids. That's a good price for that model, especially when compared to the well used, but painted, MG and USH models that are selling for $2000+.

Another interesting point is some of the current O scale listings on EB are being bought at auctions and then fliped on EB for big mark-ups. I followed one EB seller (Trainbud) and see where he bought all his recent EB listings from a January Stout action and then sold them on EB. KEY E9's he bought for $1000-1100 and then sold for $4K. PSC DD-40 and DD-35A & B purchased at the same Stout auction for around $1000 each (very nice models) and listed them on EB for $1999. I don't see them, so assume they sold. I guess I should consider him enterprising for making money, but most of his prices are gouging and that just doesn't sit well with me. If he were to take these models to a show, at these prices, he's get laughed out of the hall.
