Over the last weekend in May - a three day holiday - 85 people were shot and 24 killed, according to the University of Chicago Crime Lab.

The dubious milestone was reached on a day Chicago was roiled by another round of protests and looting following the Memorial Day death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.

“We’ve never seen anything like it, at all,” the crime lab’s senior research director, Max Kapustin, told the newspaper. “I don’t even know how to put it into context. It’s beyond anything that we’ve ever seen before.”

Distraught Chicago officials complained to Mayor Lori Lightfoot -- as looting and rioting in response to George Floyd’s death swept through the Windy City -- pleading for help and warning that the vulnerable had lost access to food and medicine.

According to a tape obtained by WTTW News of an online conference call among the city’s 50 aldermen and the mayor, one alderman could be heard weeping while others angrily decried what was going on in the city.

“My ward is a s--t show,” one alderman says. “They are shooting at the police.”

After the death of Floyd in police custody last month, riots and protests broke out in cities across the country, with many being overwhelmed by the scale of the looting and violence -- even though largely peaceful protests have returned to the streets after that initial surge of unrest.

The call in Chicago was held Sunday, May 31. That day alone, there were 699 arrests -- primarily looters -- 132 officers injured, 48 shootings and 17 homicides, according to CBS Chicago, as well as widespread damage to businesses and other property.


So what is the problem here. Chicago has been a s--t show for years under democrat control.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she couldn't keep raising property taxes "off the table" as the city faces a budget shortfall and Chicago businesses struggle to recover from both looting and the coronavirus shutdown.

"I can't take it off the table, but it is truly the last thing I want to do," Lightfoot said at a press conference this week.

Laying off city employees could be on the table too as the city faces an estimated budget shortfall of $700 million.

"Every city in the country is dealing with a loss of revenue," Chicago Deputy Mayor of Economic Development Samir Mayekar told FOX Business. "Cities, unlike the federal government, we have to balance our books. [Mayor Lightfoot] has two principles in mind … making sure that the most vulnerable populations of the city aren’t impacted. … She's focused on making sure we’re not driving business out of the city."

I saw that and was thinking good for them. Why go out there and get yourself hurt for nothing. People throwing bricks and firebombs at you and no backing from the mayor. You try to arrest one and they resist and the police get charged with excessive force and get fired. Why take the chance. At least you get to go home to your family.

Even if you arrest one they are not being charged and are released to go back out on the streets to do it some more. Eventually they will run out of places to loot and destroy.

They are going to defund the police and go to community policing. Won't need half the police they have now

Also makes it hard for the police when they have been neutered. It's going to work much better with community policing. Let the people police themselves. That's what they want....

Well I learned something new about Chicago today. All the killings were caused because of Christopher Columbus. Now that the statues were removed today I am sure all the killings will stop.

If it were really done, that could actually work. But it seems when it come time for people to actually follow through and do stuff, and be responsible, they suddenly vanish into thin air...............sort of like Congress.
