Yes, another sad encounter between police and a young black. I totally get Murph's question and agree with it. There's a lot of disrespect for police by young black men, as you can see on u-tube videos. It's almost as if they are challenging the police to harm them. Still no reason for a trained professional to lose control. I know, key word is "trained".

I just wondered with all the police standing around, why didn't a couple of them just grab the guy and slam into the car.......violent for sure..........but a more appropriate response than shooting him in the back.

Yes, it would be nice to know the back story. Last night on the news I learned the police had him down on the other side of his vehicle 1st, he then got up and walked around to the drivers side and then they shot him in the back. What in the world could have provoked this behavior? Why was he allowed to get up? Why didn't police use physical force to deal with him instead of letting him up and shooting him?

They are so unbelievable it will give rise to conspiracy theories for sure.

Police say they were responding to a domestic incident when they went to the site of Sunday's shooting but have given few other details. So far it is unclear who called the police, how many officers were involved, and what happened before the shooting.

Footage of the incident show Mr Blake opening the door and leaning into the car, at which point one officer grabs his shirt and opens fire. Seven shots can be heard in the video, as witnesses shout and scream.

Lawyers for Mr Blake said he had been trying to "de-escalate a domestic incident". Witnesses said the same to local media.

Court records show there was an open arrest warrant against Mr Blake on sexual assault and domestic abuse charges but police have not said if officers were aware of this when they responded to the call on Sunday.

Since the mother ,sister and fiance are all speaking out now. I have to ask where the hell were they at. The family should have been more involved to get this man some mental health for his domestic abuse problems. The police are not trained to deal with these kind of situations

Although you and I handled many different types of situations when we taught school many of them we had not received training to handle.
Did you ever break up a fight? Did you ever push/pull kids apart? In most cases today your only choice is to tell them to stop.

I'm not sure when You and Murph quit teaching, but back in our day, students had enough respect for teachers, that being told to "stop" would have been sufficient. Doesn't appear to be like that today.

I retired in 1999 after 43 years full-time followed by 6 years part-time.
I don't think I could teach today. I base that on the part time that I did
and talking with many teachers. Computers of various types are heavily
used today and I have problems just doing this.

I have continued to teach by tutoring grade school students who have learning and/ or behavioral difficulties. I accept no pay, having received the honor of being asked to help as more than sufficient reward.

My formal teaching career started in the early 70's , grades 7 - 12, and I never had a single disciplinary problem I could not handle with the spoken word, rules, and reasoning .

Oh, and I also made house-calls. Very, very effective .

I remember the exact day computers made their appearance in our high school . Two incidents manifested the clear change they were going to have on everything:
(1.) the faculty was ordered by the principal to never submit a single other document to her via production on a typewriter ; use only the computer for all such communications .
(2.) As I exited the library at the end of a class period , a boy sat to the left of the doorway at a bank of computers, with his back to the exit aisle. He was examining a pornographic clip of a young man's large penis flopping back-n-forth across the screen. I approached him from behind and told him such research was not appropriate for the school setting. He complied immediately and shut the computer down and promised no further such activity on school computers. I took him at his word .

However , I did submit an account of the episode to the principal, because I considered it to be within her responsibilities to know about such things, so she could decide further about policies involving computers. And yes, that report was produced and sent via my assigned computer among the faculty bank of them in that same library.

It had become quickly clear that education was about to enter a whole new era.
