No I don't like big cities. The main reason we left the Los Angles area of California was because it had become way over populated, drugs a a multitude of idiots running around. Wanted a better life for our kids in a rural area in the Midwest.Not because of politics. Both kids were in 4H for several years and raised animals that they showed and sold at the county fair. They got to know a lot of farm kids that had moral and ethic values and no drugs.

"Living in a cave" I figured if Trump won that you would move to Canada. to be with a far left liberal leader and free medical for everyone and open borders.And you can buy all the pot you want. And the best part for you they don't have guns. But then Canadians are heavy drinkers and they have a lot of drunk driver accidents. so you have a better chance of getting killed by a drunk driver than being shot by a conservative gun owner in New York

I believe the guy in philly was shot 6 times. Some say ' that was to much" No good solution for that one. May be have undercover officers show up. Not guys in police uniforms. Philadelphia is lucky. It's raining hard for two days. Halloween might be bad in the city.

If Trump wins, I won't likely be moving to Canada. Too close to Trump . He's not sure it isn't in the USA and might send in troops if they do something he disapproves of. It will be interesting having someone who thinks he has the power of Putin and other fascist or communist dictators. Not interesting enough to be worth it for America, but we'll see.

As for big cities, without them, there's no civilization. You ought to be grateful there are people who want to live somewhere where technical and social progress is possible, as opposed to the problems of rural life. You should read a book called "Wisconsin Death Trip" if you think there was some heavenly era when rural life was wonderful. It wasn't until the city bred things like antibiotics, clean water, the internal combustion engine and similar advances came about. Rural areas are nice, but they are no more heaven than any city in the Western world. Admittedly I live in a modest sized city without the level of problems and congestion of LA, NYC and Chicago. Wouldn't want to live in those places either, but I'm glad they exist. Without cities, people in rural areas would be doing subsistence farming and sitting around their caves arguing about whether rocks are edible. The least you could do is be grateful for what those city dwelling scientists, business folks and engineers came up with so you can live in a rural area with cable TV, internet, central heating/air conditioning and can drive to the lake. Without cities, none of that would be available to you.

You do realize that your per capita chance of being killed by a drunk driver or being shot by a stranger are actually higher in many rural areas (well, in areas where anybody, sane or insane can buy a semi-automatic weapon)? NYC is one of the safest places in the USA in that regard. LA and SF too. Alcoholism, depression and drug abuse are actually considerably more common in many rural areas than even large cities.

But the technology was developed in corporations and universities in cities, not in rural areas. No cities, no universities. No cities, no corporations with research activities. Civilization is the product of urbanization.

Neil. You misinterpret my thoughts about big cities. All I said was I don't want to live in one anymore.

Lived in Los angles from 1950 until 1980. I said it many times before. It was a great place to grow up for a young person.
At one time So California was considered the style setter for the rest of the country. We called it the fast lane. Took a months trip in 1978 in a motor home through the Midwest. Liked what we saw and decided to leave the fast lane. Never had a desire to go back.

For everyone here that likes the big cities. more power to you.I'm not condemning anyone who wants to live in the big city

I joined TCA and TTOS when I lived in Calif. Used to go to train meets every weekend. Nothing where I am at now. Have to travel to Kansas City of Saint Louis. Glad that NYC is safe for everyone but there are no go areas in Saint Louis. We have a great group of guys in Springfield that are into model railroading. about 12 to 15 meet every Wed for breakfast

We had no go areas in Calif that we stayed out of. East La and Compton.

Wow Neil! If your the product of education I’m happy to be a high school drop out. At every turn your your mouth opens and dumb shit just comes pouring out. If your patients read anything you posted here I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t have a practice. I’m also pretty sure rural areas existed long before cities and cities grew out of the learned state of rural life. It’s absurd for you to state that somehow rural life is subordinate to city living. As if we who live in rural areas envy the shitty city life....give me a break. I drive into Annapolis nearly every day and I’m a lot ****** happier leaving than I am going.

Clearly you missed the point I was making. Nothing wrong with rural life. It produces almost all our food and is the site of natural beauty. But it doesn’t produce civilization, including culture, technology and health care. Those are urban virtues.

Of course the following is unresearched personal opinion.

We, the editorial we, spend a lot of time talking about what was or what could be and think we have the answers.
Climate change started @ 500 years ago because of a variety of factors. We want to change that in a few years
and we will destroy more than we will change.
We did some not good things in the past and those times are over. Further change needs to come in a civilized
manner that does not involve destruction.

I need to shut up. I am not in a position to enable or support any thing that might help us stay civilized.
