Particularly in a country where every male lunatic has a firearm or two. There are no simple solutions to the problem of mentally unstable people committing crimes, but they are uncommon compared with ordinary citizens getting angry out of their minds and killing their wife, girlfriend or mother. This is what we pay and train the police to do. The fact that there are a number of neo-nazis and racists amongst our police is a separate issue and that's what the Black Lives Matter movement is about, not the mentally ill. As someone who has experienced violence by patients and family members, I'm pleased to tell you that having security guards, sometimes armed, in the hospital setting, is absolutely essential. I'm grateful to the vast majority of police officers who put their lives on the line to protect us. The small minority who are power hungry, racist dogs need to be disciplined, and, if necessary, sent off to work as mercenaries where their services might be more appropriate . Perhaps Syria?
