Double headed Lobaugh pre-war Challengers

Postby Carey Williams » Thu Jul 29, 2021 11:45 pm

Hello all,

Thought you might like to see a pair of pre-war Lobaugh Challengers working the grade.

Built 1939-41 ...rtr original price $225..

I was very fortunate to find one ....then the second one followed me home . Each is a slightly different build .
The "pusher" ...is true to it's name and would prefer to be running much faster than the lead engine ...that said ..just dialed in the voltage and the two circled flawlessly for 30 minutes .
A much larger layout with a drag of 50+ vintage Lobaugh cars is needed for a proper work out ...till then we work within the foundation walls.
Cheers Carey

They look great Carey. The Lobaugh Challenger kits look to be some of the most detailed loco models offered or the owners/builders really took them to another level. Boiler bands, washout plugs and a front pilot that is way more accurate than the 3rd rail offering around 2000. I'm impressed. The only kits I saw were back in the mid 90's and that kept getting passed around for $600, with each owner doing a little bit before throwing in the towel and selling it again. My memory is most likely quite foggy on this, but I don't remember it looking like either of yours.
