Jon, we were in your hometown yesterday. Might have even driven past your old house. Glad we left the area before Trim started gunning down troopers. Hey, have you ever been the Smith's Restaurant in Cohoes? Amazing extra-long wood bar, lattice tile floor, etc. What a spot to drink beer in the afternoon. We were in my hometown of Gorham, NH in the morning, breakfast at the Littleton Diner, lunch in Cohoes at Smith's, back home by 11:00 PM. A lot of behind the wheel. Too much actually. The train came through as we were sleeping at the T&C in Gorham. Reminded me of being a kid and hearing that same basic lash-up of diesels. What a sound in the mountains.

Tramp, I've always enjoyed a good northeast road trip!!!!! My last one was with my brother from Boston to Saratoga when he had his Boss Mustang. The best part of the trip on retuning to Boston was his rebuilt and chromed-out ex-police Harley FLH was ready to be picked up at the shop. Actually my highschool hometown was the Clifton Park-Ballston Spa area. I've been to Cohoes many a time though. I'm not sure if I've ever eaten at Smith's, but I'll bet I've had a beer or two there. My grade school home town was in western NY in Geneva.

Safe, yes. Return, No. MIL is quite the old rascal. She has epilepsy and doesn't like to take her medicine. So, what happens is grand mal seizures. Elder care in her country is all but not existent and Jahan is worried. BILs and SILs in-country think we are rich (live in US) and and "will handle it". I will probably head to Turkey (safe for me, Iran is not) for a re-union and figuring out what to do next. Crap. I am beginning to sound like Walt.
Meanwhile, there seems to be an upswing in requests for loans to BOS (Bank of San) from miscellaneous family members. Having lived on the road (really, and without funds) I don't borrow money. I don't lend it. Trouble, and it has me quite upset. The ones you benefit are the first to bad mouth you. Has anyone had a good experience with this?

My Grandfather told me never to loan money. He was correct. Every time I've loaned money it's turned out poorly, and I'm still owed thousands I'll never see. Give money if you must (rarely does any good), but don't loan it. I actually had to take a friend to court after he refused to pay back a large loan (insisted he only needed the money for less than a month). When I won in court he still didn't pay. It was back into court to garner his wages. The whole process completely sucked and ruined the friendship. This was an interest free loan of course, and after four years I really needed the money. It's similar to the fellow who borrows your tools every weekend, all but ruins them, and then curses you when you refuse to loan him a tool on the twenty-first request.
San, sorry for your trouble. Here's one hobo who will keep his fingers crossed for a quick return. Tell the relatives that you simply don't have any liquid assets, period. Just repeat it over and over. Everything is tied up and there's nothing you can do.

Good and bad. My brother and sons always pay me back, without my having to ask. My sons do not pay their mother back.
Most loans to friends turn out to be gifts. When I refuse a second loan because the first is not paid back, they never speak to me again.
My wife's relatives sucked her dry at one time, and then tried to get her to get the money from me. I gave to some of them, but the promises to pay back turned out to be lies. They even talked her into taking out a loan on their behalf. They used to make long distance phone calls and charge it to their mother's phone. Since my wife took care of her mother's bills, she had to pay. They never said thank you. They seemed to resent that she could give them money. When my wife finally wised up and said no, her relatives shunned her for fifteen years. (A blessing in my opinion.) Some of them have just recently started to speak to her again.
In our case, the relatives have no concept of saving. They spend their money without giving it a thought. My wife and I live in a shack and manage to save money. They all resent that we will no longer give them the money that we manage to save. As you say, it is very upsetting.

After a long night of making love, Thomas notices a photo of another man on her nightstand by the bed. He begins to worry.
