It's like Diogenes, only find me an honest, decent politician, an actual Civil Servant. If they would spend as much time working on the nation's problems as they do slinging mud at each other, and pursuing their own personal agendas, things might improve. The scariest part is they don't seem to have the common sense to control what they say in public.

Two Republican lawmakers recently introduced a Constitutional amendment that would impose term limits on members of Congress.

The bill, proposed by Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Rep. Francis Rooney (Fla.), calls for a maximum of three two-year terms in the House and two six-year terms in the Senate.

According to Fox 59, the bill is co-sponsored by Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and David Perdue (R-Ga.).

Rooney appeared on "Fox & Friends" Saturday and said that the proposal would help avoid "entrenched politicians" who are aligned with special interests.

"I would think 18 years is plenty of time to serve your country in Congress," he said.

Passage of that TERM LIMITS bill would certainly be a start.

Term limits only server to increase the chaos. They enacted them in Michigan (state level) several decades ago and all it did was make things worse. Our laws are being written by lobbyists that the elected morons in office are trying to get jobs from when they are "limited out".

My main complaint is that limits ensures no institutional memory and there is no "learning curve" for the participants. They have no understanding of how government works and no idea on how to negotiate anything. About the time they might have learned enough to actually be effective at their jobs they get kicked out.

You want to see real change. Take away the money. ALL of the money. You want to run for office you get a moderate fixed budget from the government. No PACS, no Super PACS, no out of state funds unless you are running for national office. You can't even spend your own money unless you plan on spending your own money on government projects. In addition this would force the candidates to show some level of fiscal responsibility/knowledge or enough expertise to hire someone who does.

You want to make the playing field even more level and the environment less contentious, require that any adds be held up to the same scrutiny that you do for someone selling a tube of toothpaste.

TV/radio and print media will die before they let this happen because they make a lot of money selling those BS ads while their editorial boards wring their hand lamenting the sad state of affairs they profit from.

You really want to change things, make voting "mandatory". If you consistently don't vote you risk being put in a pool of candidates for six weeks of government service at minimum wage (like jury duty on steroids).

Might work and I like the idea except for that hiring of "expertise" - that ends up creating and formalizing a business of politics bureaucracy outside of Govt.....which we already have at one level, but this would just require its increasing in size and control. That would also require limits.

Vote a straight ticket of the first option....I'm outta here. How do you fix that?

Had an old friend who was the local Tax Collector...he described the first time he ran for the office. The candidates drew numbered "pills" out of a bottle to determine their position on the ballot. He drew number one, and the person administering the draw said: "That will get you a lot of votes."

Meaning some people just select the first option......and these are people who are voluntarily voting. What do you think people who don't care will do?

It takes 60 votes in the senate to pass the funding bill. It would take some democrats to vote for it. And then the house has to approve it also. Like I said before. Total gridlock for the next 2 years

Senate did passed the funding bill already last year. McConnell refuses to let the matching House bill on the Senate floor since he's afraid to be confronted by overriding a veto

No. I just know what it takes to pass an amendment to the Constitution and you should too! The process is designed to be very difficult and that has proven to be very true over the lift time of the Constitution.

They can introduce it but it will probably never make to the floor for a vote.
