Looking at the photos, WAY too nice to be original....unless it had original boxes and been stored in a humidity and temperature controlled environment.
No scratches on vestibules.

Seen this before, looked it up.
Pride Lines reproductions.

How about the name plate in the underside of the motor that doesn't say Lionel, rather Pride Lines?

No idea what Pride Lines stuff is worth.

Certainly not as advertised.
And NOT Pre-War Lionel.

Pride Lines made top-notch stuff. Their Green Diamond set was an epic piece that goes for big bucks. I briefly owned a PL M-10000 set similar to this one (mine had one less car), but I sold it to a mate to fund acquisition of a prewar Western Coil Zephyr set. $600-$700 seems a reasonable price for a PL five-unit M-10000 set in really nice shape. The thing is, you’ll need O-72 curves to run it.

Not necessarily. More of a Caveat Emptor, and giving some folks tools to use to help identify.
What would you call it if it's advertised as one thing and it ain't?
Condition, listing as Lionel, AND specifying pre-war when it's at least 45 or more years newer.

No question on any value, rather what appears to be purposeful misrepresentation.

Maybe a pass if there wasn't a tag visible in HIS photos that said "Pride Lines".

I had looked at his other offerings.....weird. Some make no sense, like a Stephen King book for $245.00.

I get that, and it's good to point those things out. All I'm saying is I wouldn't presume everyone on there is a shyster. Some folks list stuff they don't even know what they have. I've bought signed first editions of notable books on there for a buck or less. I've also been burnt a few times buying stuff I knew little about. It's a bit of a crap-shoot occasionally.

What funny about this is that if it was genuinely Lionel, I doubt you could get $600-$700 for it. I see someone snapped it up.

Probably a bit of both, with a tendency towards embellishment and some modicum of misrepresentation.
